Selena Quintanilla-Perez, the undisputed Queen of Tejano Music, may have passed away 20 years ago, but her presence is still felt after all these years.
On April 30th, at the Latin Billboard Awards in Miami, Jennifer Lopez took the stage and paid tribute to the woman who was the catalyst for her career.
Lopez, who back in 1997 portrayed the fallen singer in a film about her life, was accompanied by Selena’s siblings, AB and Suzette, Selena’s widower, Chris Perez, and Pete Astudillo, all original members of Los Dinos, the family band who backed up Selena during every performance.
Lopez performed a medley of Selena’s hits, performing classics such as Como La Flor, Amor Prohibido, I Could Fall in Love, Bidi Bidi Bom Bom, and No Me Queda Mas.
At the end of her performance, she hugged Selena’s siblings while receiving a standing ovation from the audience. J. Lo’s portrayal of Selena catapulted her in stardom, also inspiring Lopez to pursue a career. It was absolutely beautiful. For all you Selena fans, grab your box of tissues, because this tribute is sure you make you shed some tears.
