Gisele Bündchen Retires From The Runway

World-renowned supermodel Gisele Bündchen is stepping off the runway to pursue other interests within the fashion industry. The Brazilian beauty posted this Facebook status this morning along with a throwback picture of her that was taken when she first started modeling at 14 years-old. :

“I am grateful that at 14, I was given the opportunity to start this journey. Today after 20 years in the industry, it is a privilege to be doing my last fashion show by choice and yet still be working in other facets of the business. ‪#‎firstrunway‬ ‪#‎14yearsold‬ “

Now, 20 years later Bündchen is retiring because she listens to her body and respects what it tells her, as reported by Brazilian newspaper Folha de São Paolo. “Automatically my body tells me if what I do is worth it, and it asked to stop. I respect my body, it’s a privilege to be able to stop,” said I don’t see how to continue (modeling on the catwalk) … and stopping will leave room for other projects I have for myself,” said Bündchen. On April 15, she ends her runway career modeling for Colcci for São Paolo Fashion Week.

Bündchen became globally recognized since her runway debut in New York Fashion Week in 1996 and signed a $25 million with Victoria’s Secret only four years later in 2000. Bündchen reigns as the highest-paid model in the world, grossing $47 million in 2014 before taxes and fees. She’s currently the face of Pantene and Oral-B in Brazil, and she has her own lingerie line titled Gisele Bündchen Intimates. Sitting on the board of the Rainforest Alliance, she advocates biodiversity and sustainability and supports #hugatree with the World Wildlife Fund.

Additionally, Bündchen posted this:

Only the best is yet to come from Gisele Bündchen. We’ll miss seeing those legs though.
