America’s Next Top Model all-star contestant Dominique Reighard is a force to be reckoned with and right before our very eyes, the career ascending phenom is poised to dance to the beat of a different drum: Her own.
She sashayed her way down runways, through our televisions, and into our hearts as one of the faces of America’s Next Top Model: cycles 10 and 17 (All-Star edition), becoming one of the most beloved models ever on the series. She took the top prize on the ANTM spin-off, Modelville, snagging a spokesmodel gig for cosmetics line Carol’s Daughter in the process. Unlike most young women that appear on the show and then fade into obscurity, Reighard demonstrated to everyone watching that she had bigger plans on the horizon.
Dominique has graced the pages of some of the biggest magazines internationally (Seventeen, People, Essence), and squeezed in appearances on a few networks and New York Fashion Week to boot. Not one to rest on her laurels, the burgeoning multi-hyphenate expanded her artistic universe by parlaying her modeling career into music.
Her music career quickly caught fire with the song ‘Touch Ya Booty‘, which was directed by hip hop sensation The Game and became a YouTube and iTunes sensation. To catch lightning in a bottle, the exotic beauty sought out producers from all across the U.S. to create a formidable foray in EDM genre. Featuring one of the hottest producers of the moment, Hector Fonseca, her song ‘On Top of the World‘ became a hit, and she toured through the United Kingdom and Asia in support of the album.
Now she has released her latest single from her album $pend It All and the juggernaut that is Dominique doesn’t seem to be slowing down any time soon. ‘Super Sexy‘ is not only a song. It is a movement and one that is sure to take this young woman on a course for a career that is just only beginning to illuminate the masses.
I managed to catch up with her and find out what drives her, where she plans to go in her young career, and what else we can expect from Team Dominique.
Much has been written about your determination to get deep
into the trenches of the entertainment industry. Now that you are in it,
can you let your fans know how far and deep you plan to go with your
I truly believe that all roads lead to all roads! My career so far has been an incredible journey and I plan stick it out and enjoy it. I try to learn as much as I can about the business, life, and myself. I plan on pursuing my music career, acting and many other areas of entertainment. My career is a work in progress and is always evolving. I like to think of myself as a jack-of-all trades, however, I must say that my focus at the moment is my album titled Spend It All and doing an Asian tour to promote it.
Musically, your sound could best be described as…? Are there
other genres you would like to or plan to expand to?
I am a lover of all genres of music! At the moment, my sound is pop/dance but I am open to doing all types of music. The feedback that I have gotten so far from professionals in the music industry is that my album sounds like it was made by a well-traveled person and has a lot of energy. To be honest that is what I was shooting for! I have traveled all around the world and the pop/dance music that I heard is what inspired my album. So, I was definitely thinking with a global mentality and I am in love with the finished product!
Who were your icons in entertainment growing up? Who do you
follow in the world of Hollywood now that has a career similar to the
one you would like to have?
Growing up I thought I was a perfect mix of Mariah Carey and Tyra Banks. I must say Mariah Carey inspired me when I was little girl and I wanted to be just like her. Nowadays, I must say that I am inspired by so many women all around the world. I believe that there is inspiration all around us if choose to acknowledge it. If I could put Jennifer Lopez, Tyra Banks, Oprah Winfrey and Mother Teresa’s careers in a blender, that career would be my inspiration. At the end of the day, although I have been inspired by many, I want to fulfill my own destiny and be the best me possible.
What advice do you have for young women wanting to pursue a career in show business?
Know who you are and what you want out of life and your career. If you don’t believe in yourself and know what you want then no one else will. Remain confident and always stay humble and know that following your dreams is about the journey and not the destination!
Where would you like to see yourself in ten years?
One thing is for sure, I will not be in the same place that I am in right now. Although I do believe that I am right where I need to be in this moment, I always aspire for more. What I do know is that in 10 years, I want to look back and be proud of how much I have grown, learned about life, and more importantly how much I given back to the world!
You have quickly gained a following touring with your music.
What’s the best thing about your fans?
I feel like they are my friends! They are loyal and they inspire me to push myself harder when I am having a bad day. I am honored to have friends that support me all over the globe.
What upcoming projects are on your plate?
There is so much, I don’t know where to begin. Touring, touring, touring and pushing the album! I am also in talks with a few labels right now but that’s top secret.
Is there a celebrity that you’ve met that you were entirely starstruck by?
No, but I would love to meet Oprah.
What advice has been given to you by someone in the industry
that has stuck with you as you continue to get your feet wet in the
world of television, fashion, and music?
Latoya Jackson: “Make the simplest movement when performing powerful!”
Tyra Banks: “Girl you should pursue a career in music!”
